Opportunities available to coach on Wiltshire Cricket Talent Pathway and/or MCC Foundation Hubs

Are you a qualified coach in Wiltshire interested in supporting pathway cricket? If so, we would like to hear from you.

We have boys and girls’ pathways, ranging from u10 to adult cricket. This includes county and development programmes and, new to the programme in Wiltshire, MCC Hubs.

What are the core responsibilities of a pathway coach?

Age groups and teams all have slightly varying demands from coaches, but the role of a typical pathway coach will look something like this…

  • Attending all winter training sessions and matches
  • Depending on whether your team has a designated manager, communicating match details with parents, opposition and the host venue
  • Supporting your age group through pathway trials
  • Liaising with your pathway lead in talent identification and recognising outstanding individual achievements

What would the winter programme look like?

Depending on the team you work with, there will typically be 10-12 x 2-hour sessions from January to April. These will usually take place on a Sunday at a venue in Wiltshire, depending on hall availability.

What would the summer programme look like?

This may vary from team to team, but typically, it is between 8 and 14 matches, with home and away fixtures. The MCC Hub programme offers a knock-out competition, so there may, or may not, be significantly less workload during the season working with one of these teams. There is typically a requirement for more coaches in the winter, so if you can’t commit to an entire summer programme, we would still like to hear from you.

What will you get out of it?

The purpose of the pathway comprises various drivers. Yes, we would like to produce future first-class cricketers, but we also want to create a lifelong love for the game, which will keep our club game growing while feeding players into the National County 1st XI side. All pathway coaches have a vital role to play in achieving these goals, and you get to be of the player’s journey.

Are there any roles for county age group managers?

Yes, if you would like to support the pathways in a managerial capacity, some roles are still available. You do not need to be a qualified coach, but you need relevant safeguarding checks.

Are the coaches paid?

All roles are paid, and the amount depends on the level of coaching qualification.

Do I need to have a coaching qualification?

Yes, all of our coaches require coaching qualifications and relevant safeguarding checks.
