Wiltshire become the first county to launch a Seniors Women's team!

Wiltshire Cricket and Wiltshire Seniors’ Cricket are proud to announce that we have, we believe, become the first county to launch a Seniors’ (over 45) County Women’s Team.

The team will take on the East Anglian Veteran Ladies’ team in a friendly 40-over red-ball match at Westbury and District Cricket Club on Saturday 9th September starting at 12.00 noon. We are grateful to Westbury and District CC for allowing us to use their facilities.

Wiltshire Seniors proposed the inclusion of the launch of a Women’s Seniors team in the Wiltshire Cricket 5-year plan 2020 – 2024. Despite Covid, we have been able to bring this to fruition with a trial game in 2023, with more games planned in 2024 – we are already in discussion with other counties about following our lead.

Tim Mynott, Chair of Wiltshire County Seniors’ Cricket Club said “We already run 6 men’s teams – 2 at 50+, 2 at 60+ and 2 @ 70+ and we are delighted that we are able to be involved in the creation of a women’s team as well – we hope this is just the start of something great”.

Pete Sykes, Managing Director of Wiltshire Cricket said “A lot of Wiltshire clubs have thriving women’s sections and have put a lot of effort into developing the facilities to encourage more women and girls to play cricket. We are keen to see this extended to more women, regardless of age, and the creation of the Seniors’ team is a big step forward”.
