Springfields reach National Table Cricket Final at Lords

After another year of success Table Cricket delivery in Wiltshire, reaching a record number of schools and colleges, Wiltshire were invited to their first ever National Finals Day.

After a series of impressive performances, winning both the County and Regional competitions, The Springfields Academy (Wiltshire) qualified for the Table Cricket National Final, becoming the first ever Wiltshire team to do so.

The event took place at the prestigious Lords Cricket Ground on the 9th June, along with 9 other schools from the UK:

  • Elms School – Kent
  • Abingdon & Witney College – Oxfordshire
  • Thomas Wolsey – Suffolk
  • Fairfax – Warwickshire
  • The Springfields Academy - Wiltshire
  • Wirral Grammar School – Cheshire
  • Whinfell – Cumbria
  • Beckfoot – Yorkshire
  • Beech Academy – Nottinghamshire
  • Falkirk High School – Scotland

Prior to the final, each team was placed into 2 groups, with the top three teams progressing into the knockout rounds. Games begun at 10:30AM, with 4 group games. Springfields began the day with a narrow loss, but recovered well with 1 win, 1 draw, and 2 losses.

This run of results placed Springfields 3rd in the group, being placed in a 5th place, play-off. In their final game, Springfields ended the competition with a convincing victory finishing 5th in the UK. A fantastic achievement for all involved, surpassing over 1000 teams!

It is brilliant to see those involved in Table Cricket being given a national platform to show off their skills, along with the opportunity to travel to impressive venues and meet new people. The event was a huge success enjoyed by all and was an excellent example of the power of disability sport.
