The Success of Wiltshire's Table Cricket Programme
During the 2022/23 academic year, the Table Cricket Programme has seen unprecedented growth in a number of key areas. Wiltshire Cricket works in partnership with the Lords Taverners to deliver the programme throughout the county. During the first half of this academic year, Table Cricket has been delivered in 15 schools to SEND/Disabled participants with the aim of providing them with a more accessible form of cricket that offers the same benefits associated with taking part in sport.
To celebrate a hugely successful first half of the year with Wiltshire Cricket’s disability provision, each school/college involved in the 2022/23 Table Cricket Programme was invited to take part in 1 of 2 Finals Days in February.
The Finals Days provide a rare opportunity for SEND/Disabled individuals to get involved in competitive environments, and test their skills against others from around the county in hopes of progressing to the regional final in Exeter. Aside from the competition, the events also provide a fantastic opportunity for personal and social development. The development of wider skills is a fundamental aspect of the events, which aligns with the ethos of both the Table Cricket and Super 1s Programmes looking to prepare young people for challenges later in life.
The Finals Days took place on the 22nd and 24th February at Lavington School and Crowdys Hill School, which included:
- 12 schools
- 18 teams
- 116 participants
- 26 Table Cricket trained Young Leaders
- 10 hours of competition
- 2 winners
- 4 Spirit of Cricket award winners
Wiltshire Cricket thoroughly enjoyed providing 2 Finals Days that provided fun and inclusivity. We look forward to delivering many more.
