Women's and Girls Cricket celebrated at Wiltshire Cricket Grassroots Cricket Awards evening

Wiltshire Cricket was delighted to host the 2022 Women and Girls Awards and Grassroots Cricket thank you evening last week at the Assembly Room in Devizes Town Hall. We were joined by special guests for the evening, Western Storm players Alex Griffiths and Nat Wraith, along with Wiltshire men’s 1 XI player Jack Mynott to present trophies and to take part in our Q&A.

During the evening, awards were presented to recognise:

  • Women & Girls Club Awards from the 2022 season
  • 2022 Young Storm Champions
  • 2022 County Age Group Individual Awards
  • 2022 County Age Group Player of the Year Awards

The evening was also an opportunity to say a wider thank you to the volunteers within cricket clubs who make women's and girls’ cricket happen. Women’s & Girls’ Cricket in Wiltshire would not be in it’s current position without the time, effort and dedication of club volunteers, so we’d like to say a huge thank you!  A great number of W&Gs across the county have had the opportunity to be involved with cricket in 2022 and I’m sure they are all very grateful to those who spend time organising, managing, coaching and facilitating cricket offers!

Women & Girls Club Awards

The first awards handed out in the evening were for our club competitions.

2022 Young Storm Champions

The Young Storm Champions course is a collaborative project between Western Storm and Wiltshire Cricket Limited.

Girls who sign up to the Young Storm Champions course will develop an understanding of how they can support coaching sessions at their club and be a role model to younger girls as well as learning the basics of umpiring and scoring.

Linked to the course is a volunteering scheme. As participants actively support club sessions as female role models, their volunteer hours can be logged to win Western Storm goodies!

Congratulations to this years Young Storm Champions Charlotte Morrison and Lily Lloyd.

2022 County Age Group Individual Awards

Our next set of awards went to our County Age Group players who have put in an individual performance of 4 wickets or 50 runs.

County Player of The Year Awards

The final awards of the evening were for our County Age Group players of the year, as voted for by the coaches.

Q and A with Nat Wraith, Alex Griffiths and Jack Mynott

The Women and Girls Cricket Awards evening concluded with Wiltshire’s very own Jack Mynott hosting a Q&A with Western Storm's Alex Griffiths and Nat Wraith. This was a great session during which guests got an insight in to a range of things, from their day-to-day schedules and funniest moments of the summer, through to their own ambitions for the women's and girls’ game.  A huge thank you to Alex, Nat and Jack for your contributions to the evening!

Wiltshire Cricket are hugely proud of all the players involved with our county teams this year and would like to thank all of the players and parents for your commitment to County Cricket. We really appreciate the amount of organising, traveling and dedication that is put in throughout the year!

A final thank you to our W&Gs Participation Cricket Sponsors – PensionBee, who very generously support our competitions and help us to keep cricket accessible and growing across Wiltshire!

Keep an eye out in the coming weeks and months for exciting updates on the 2023 season!
