Wiltshire Cricket recognises our Umpires and Scorers at first Grassroots Cricket Awards Event of the Autumn

During October and November Wiltshire Cricket will be holding a series of Grassroots Cricket Thank You evenings as we recognise the incredible volunteer network that makes recreational Cricket happen.

The Assembly Room at Devizes Town Hall was the venue for our first event, as umpires and scorers from across Wiltshire were invited to a thank you evening.

The format of the evening saw introductions and thanks given by Wiltshire Association of Cricket Officials (WACO) Chair, Tony Horn, and Wiltshire Cricket Managing Director, Peter Sykes. This was followed by drinks and a buffet after which Martin Nickson led some interactive discussions around the future development of officiating in Wiltshire. We also heard updates on appointments and education from the various WACO committee members responsible for these areas of work.

One of the key messages given during the evening, and that will be given across all events, is that one of Cricket's great strengths is the wide range of people and volunteer groups that coem together to make the game of Cricket happen. The volunteer base across the recreational game is something that Cricket should always celebrate and on that note we thank our umpires and scorers for their fantastic contribution to the game in 2022, be it through standing in school, club or pathway fixtures, or providing administrative support to WACO, or through running education courses to help develop future officials.

Wiltshire Cricket now looks forward to its further events this Autumn, all of which can be read about here
