Wiltshire Cricket celebrates record amount of delivery in schools in 2021-2022

Thanks to the support of our valued partners, Chance to Shine, Wiltshire Cricket is delighted to share details of our delivery in to schools in the 2021-2022 academic year; a year in which our reach was extended to a record number of schools and children.

Inspiring the next generation of young cricketers is such an important part of our work and as such our partnership with Chance to Shine and ECB when it comes to working in the school environment is so important to us.

During 2021-2022, the scale of our delivery increased significantly from previous years, as is outlined by some of the figures you will see below:

Chance to Shine Whole Schools Programme

The Chance to Shine Whole School Programme is one of the offers that we are able to offer to our network of primary schools. The programme provides a framework to support Chance to Shine's objectives in each of the schools in which the programme is delivered, and comprises of a number of elements including:

  • Play – a term's worth of practical activity, in co-ordination and with support from a class teacher or classroom assistants.
  • Inspire – Access for schools to a virtual “induction meeting” to explain the programme and access to a new assembly resource to accompany the programme.
  • Lead – An opportunity for some informal teacher training for a school's staff and access to a four week KS2 Playground Leaders programme run as an after school club.
  • Compete – A week of the programme dedicated to an Intra-school competition day for children to compete against the other pupils in their lesson.
  • Pathway – An opportunity to deliver some community taster sessions at the school to promote All Stars Cricket and Dynamos Cricket which come into effect in the Spring.

In 2021-2022, we achieved the following numbers in relation to our Primary School Whole Schools Programme:

  • 26 schools
  • 649 hours of delivery
  • 2664 children
    • 1314 girls
    • 1350 boys
  • 15 Assemblies
  • 73 teachers receiving Informal Teacher Training
  • 17 Playground Leaders courses; training 153 Leaders

The Whole School Programme is a FREE programme for schools with Wiltshire Cricket approaching schools to be involved in the programme.

Chance to Shine Engagement Sessions

Our Chance to Shine Engagement sessions allow us to achieve much more widespread promotion of Cricket across the county. The engagement sessions see us go in to schools for a day's worth of activity during which we deliver taster sessions aligned to All Stars Cricket, Dynamos Cricket and Chance to Shine Teacher's portal to ideally all pupils within that school.

In 2021-2022, we achieved the following numbers in relation to our Engagement programme:

  • 47 schools
  • 224 hours of delivery
  • 6061 children:
    • 3060 girls
    • 3001 boys

The Engagement sessions are FREE for schools and available to any school to access.

School Competition

One of our biggest impacts in 2021-2022 was the increased scale of competition and festival delivery that we were able to facilitate during the year.

During the winter, we were able to deliver the following:

  • Key Stage 1 Skills Festivals - 5 festivals delivered across the county
  • Key Stage 2 Dynamos Skills Festivals - 5 festivals delivered across the county
  • Indoor Boys Under 13s & 15s Finals Days
  • Indoor Girls Under 13s & 15s Finals Days

During the summer, we then delivered the following:

  • Qualifying ECB Dynamos Schools Cluster Festivals - 19 qualifying events across the county
  • Dynamos Year 3 & 4 County Event
  • Dynamos Mixed 5 & 6 County Finals
  • Dynamos Girls 5 & 6 County Finals
  • Outdoor Boys Under 12s Finals Day
  • Outdoor Boys Under 13s & 15s Finals Days
  • Outdoor Girls Under 13s & 15s Finals Days

Across all of our competitions, we are very proud to celebrate the following numbers:

  • 172 Primary School teams
  • 81 Secondary School teams
  • 102 Young Umpires trained

Overall, a wonderful year for Wiltshire Cricket when it comes to Chance to Shine delivery, and the above just covers our core funding for coaching and competition. Outside of the information above we have also been proud to deliver the new Chance to Shine Girls Secondary programme and to continue delivery of our Chance to Shine Street programme. We have also been grateful for the ECB bursaries that have allowed us to deliver a number of free All Stars and Dynamos Cricket programmes at schools and community settings across the county.

We are now busy promoting all of our Schools programmes for the current academic year with a full diary of school activity already in place for term 1 and term 2.
