Schools have 3 different ways in which the County Board can assist them within Cricket

  • Kit Bags
  • Community Coach
  • Non Turf Pitches

Kit Bags

Lord's Taverners LogoEvery school needs equipment to deliver cricket and there is no better way of getting free high quality equipment than through the Lords Taverners scheme. Each year the Lord’s Taverners aim is to give young people a sporting chance. They achieve this by providing opportunities for young people, able bodied or with disabilities, under the age of 25 to participate in sport & recreation. Over the last 50 years they have given over £36m away to schools, sports clubs & special needs organisations.

For schools they have on offer Kwik Cricket Bags and Inter Cricket Bags. Kwik Cricket is aimed at the Primary audience and each bag consists of plastic stumps, bats and ball. The Inter Cricket equipment is more advanced and is aimed at the years 7 and 8 in secondary schools. This form of Cricket bridges the gap between soft ball at primary school and Hard ball later on in Secondary Schools. The equipment is colourful and consists of pads, gloves, bats, ball and wicket keepers equipment.

If you would like to know more about this equipment then please click on Lords Taverners link or download an application form.

Community Coach

Each year in June we write to all schools, both secondary and primary, either directly, through School Sports Partnerships or via their Local Authority, inviting them to take up the coaching opportunities we have on offer. With this letter we offer coaching places from September through to February Half Term. At this time our main focus is Girls Under 13 Cricket but we are also happy to take on Primary Schools with multi skills work being delivered to KS1 and 2 through Cricket. In the new year we then write again and organise our programmes for March to July. This is delivered through cricket sessions for all ages. If for whatever reason you have not received a letter then please contact Pete Sykes and he will help you.

Non Turf Pitches

As well as the kit bags Lords Taverners have also just re-opened the non-turf pitch grant scheme for 2007.  Grants are provided up to £6,000 towards the installation of non-turf pitches, practice ends and nets.

In order to apply for a Non Turf pitch you must complete an application form which MUST be approved by the Cricket Development Manager. Therefore, on completion of the form please send it through to Steve Silk to sign it off.
