School Cricket Festivals

Without the end product of competitive Cricket, the coaching that is on offer at schools would be worthless. It is competitions and festivals that give children a taste of what Sport is all about and is the arena in which they get the chance to put all of their practice to work.

Over recent years it has been noticeable that competitive Cricket has been lacking within schools, particularly at state level. Subsequently, projects such as Chance to Shine and MCC Spirit of Crickethave been introduced to help rejuvenate competitive Cricket within state schools. Both of these projects require that schools play matches against each other and enter into festivals.

Therefore, each year, primary schools from around the county are invited to attend the National Asda Kwik Cricket Festivals. For 2007, we have girls only festivals taking place as well as the normal mixed festivals.

Continuing on the theme of girls cricket, several schools in the county have entered into the Lady Taverners Under 13 and Under 15 Indoor as well as the Lady Taverners Under 13 Outdoor competition. The number of schools entering the competitions has been fantastic for 2007 thanks in large to the excellent work of Bob Powell in driving girls cricket through his Community Coach work.
