Schools Activity
Wiltshire Cricket Board is currently involved in the ECB initiative Chance to Shine and the MCC Spirit of Cricket Project. In addition to this Wiltshire Cricket Board also has two Community Sports Coaches who are employed to work solely on promoting and developing Cricket within schools. The WCB can also be of assistance in supporting schools to get hold of equipment and kit for their own children.
During the last two years we have been working in particular on the development of girls cricket in an aim to stimulate enough interest for us to run District Girls teams at under 13 level. Due to the hard work of the Community Coaches and the fantastic support of the schools and surrounding cricket clubs we acheived this aim and ran District Girls festivals for Under 13's during 2007.
Our work on girls development is continuing in 2008 with one of our community coaches working solely on the development of Girls Cricket.
In addition to the girls secondary school work, we have also been working in some primary schools to support them in their preparation for the ASDA Kwik Cricket Festivals. We obviously cannot reach all schools but are looking to support as many as we can and in the future will be working with Local Authorites and School Sports Partnerships to estbaish where there is a need for us to work in order to increase participation
For the summer we have established a link with the Wiltshire and Dorset Rugby Association to run five different summer camps over the five weeks of the school summer holiday. These will be three day summer camps held at various venues throughout the county where the children will get opportunities to receive both Rugby and Cricket coaching. For more information on these summer camps please contact Pete Sykes.
