Wiltshire Association of Cricket Coaches (WACC)
Recently within Wiltshire we have restructured our association of Cricket Coaches (WACC) in order to create more defined areas of responsibility within the group. We now have a new chairman of WACC, Alan Crouch, who is going to be working with three sub groups. These groups come under the categories of Performance, Coach Education and Development, and District Cricket.
Primarily, the responsibility of the Performance group is to oversee the county age group coaching programme and to ensure that the right children are selected for the appropriate levels of representative cricket. However, the performance group also needs to work closely with the Coach Education group to ensure that the right coaches are in place to run these programmes.
In terms of the Coach Education and Development Group their main roles are to oversee the coach education courses to ensure that candidates are attending the appropriate courses. The group is also looking to develop a coach mentoring scheme whereby coaches can receive some form of ongoing training once their courses have been completed. This can also assist in the grooming of coaches for work with representative sides.
The final area of WACC focuses around district cricket. Within Wiltshire, district cricket is played at under 11’s boys and under 13’s girls level. Therefore, the responsibilities of the group are to ensure that coaching programmes exist in each district, nominations are made by all clubs within the districts and competitive festivals are arranged for each age group.
The above provides you with a brief outline of what WACC is all about. However, if you would like more information about the association, its functions and how to join then please do not hesitate to contact either Alan Crouch or Steve Silk whose details can be found on the contacts page of the website.
