Wiltshire Queries
Wiltshire Queries were formed in 1932 by a group of young County players who wanted to ‘stick together’ for cricket as they prepared to pursue different paths towards work or university. The first match of the new wandering or nomadic club was played on August Bank Holiday Monday 1933 and ever since then the club has managed to get in about 30 to 36 matches a season.
Currently the club's membership boasts over 115 playing members, many of them young, and 24 candidates and this season they have 40 matches scheduled, including a tour to Yorkshire. Home matches are played at Devizes CC and away matches occur in Surrey, London, Hampshire and Oxfordshire. The club always wants to enjoy their cricket and they do take it more seriously than those who went before them. The Queries prefer to play declaration cricket, but are happy to play limited overs when the opposition insist on it.
The Queries are not a wealthy or expensive club, but are rich in talent, potential and youth and they are a happy club. They aim to promote cricket and provide the opportunity to play it and love it when players come along to play, have a good game, which may be lost or won, and really enjoy their day, make some new friends, and say that they want to do it again.
