League Cricket
ECB West of England Premier League (WEPL)
The West of England Premier Cricket League is the home for the top teams from Wiltshire, Somerset and Gloucestershire. The 4-tiered league is host to highly competitive cricket that boasts many contracted players from the 2 first class counties as well as a large number of the Wiltshire Minor Counties side.
The West of England Premier League has been ‘bowled over’ this year by a new £10,000 per annum sponsorship deal with the sports clothing company North Gear in a unique partnership for club cricket. This partnership is looking to support local clubs by putting money back into the subsidy of coaches and Groundsman’s courses. It is hoped that by supporting clubs in this way a higher standard of young cricketer will be unearthed and they will get to play on better pitches with an improved standard of facilities.
The WEPL League also works closely with the Bristol and Western Counties ACU&S to ensure that all 1st XI League matches are officiated by qualified Umpires. The League is committed to ensuring that aspects of the games such as grounds, wickets and umpiring are of the highest possible standard so that it attracts the standard of player that can help the league to grow in stature and reputation in the future.
ECB Southern Premier League
Whilst Wiltshire sides generally feed into the West of England Premier League, some clubs from the South of the County compete or feed in to the Southern Premier League. For example South Wilts CC are currently competing in the Southern Premier League Division 1.
The League currently has a lucrative sponsorship deal agreed with Southern Electric who also support and sponsor a Cup competition made up of clubs from within the League. The Southern Premier League, much like the WEPL League boasts an excellent standard of Cricket with the several top sides from Hampshire competing with several First Class players on show.
All Southern Premier League Division 1,2 and 3 matches are umpired by members of the South Coast Panel of Umpires and as such represents the Leagues commitment to creating a highly professional and well reputed League.
Surridge Wiltshire County Cricket League
At senior level Wiltshire boasts the excellently run Surridge Wiltshire County Cricket League which consists of seven divisions of ten teams each. Within the divisions, promotion and relegation happens each year with winning sides from Division 1 progressing into the Wiltshire Premier Division.
The Wiltshire Premier Division is new for 2007 and does not fall under the umbrella of the Wiltshire County Cricket League. Instead it is a feeder league and acts under the body of the West of England Premier League in which many clubs from Wiltshire compete.
The Wiltshire Cricket League is excellently run with a fantastic committee driving it throughout the year. It is through their hard work that we are able to offer fantastic competitive cricketing opportunities for people of all ages and abilities.
