Jack Wilcox Trophy
This competition started back in the early 1960s when it was called the Wiltshire Senior Cup. In those days all the senior clubs in the county participated in the Wiltshire League. The top 16 senior sides all took part in this competition which was run on an evening 20 overs aside basis. In the late 60s and early 70s a ‘Finals Day’ was held on a Sunday at Devizes when the semi-finals and final were played.
The advent of the Western League, Southern League in the late 70s saw the fragmentation of senior club cricket in the county and numbers entering started to dwindle.
It was at this time that the competition was re-named in the memory of Jack Wilcox who was a staunch supporter of cricket in Wiltshire. Jack served for many years on the Wiltshire Cricket Association committee and was also a leading light in the Wiltshire Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers.
During the 90s numbers dwindled still further, due to changing work patterns for players. This also meant that clubs could rarely put out their strongest side and the number of late postponements also increased.
Following the 2004 Final at South Wilts, Rob Wade and Neil Shardlow came up with brilliant idea of a Twenty20 day. Details soon fell into place and that is how the competition now runs.
The 2007 competition will see Corsham, South Wilts, Trowbridge and Westbury compete.
